Services – Personal and Career Assessment Program
EDUCATIONAL FUTURES has developed a unique program for self and career assessment, which forms the basis for future planning in a young person's life. It is important for students to be ready as they approach a major decision point at the end of either secondary school or college or university years. Readiness has to do not only with education and knowledge; it also has to do with internal preparedness. There must be an understanding of oneself in terms of goals, values, and personality, and also interests and aptitudes as they relate to possible career or vocational choices.
Through a series of carefully selected exercises and an interview with a consultant, the student is asked to reflect on the basic questions of "Who Am I?" and "Where Am I Going?" The exercises are chosen from respected sources and include those from Richard Bolles' What Color is Your Parachute?; the Mohler Personal Concept exercise prepared for the American Management Association; the Myers Briggs Type Indicator; the Vernon, Allport and Linzey "Study of Values"; and the Strong Interest Inventory.
The results are presented in a comprehensive Personal and Career Assessment Report prepared specifically for the student. The consultant and student and his/her parents then meet to review the Report, which summarizes the student's educational goals, values and personality, as well as his/her career interests and aptitudes. This Report will provide the student with a foundation for effective educational and career planning.
