Educational Futures

Services – College Planning Program

EDUCATIONAL FUTURES offers a comprehensive and customized program to assist students and their families with the demanding process of researching, selecting and applying to North American schools, colleges or universities. Ideally, this program should begin early in the penultimate year.

Phase One: Assessment and Recommendations
Following the initial Personal Consultation, the student is asked to complete a questionnaire and several self- and career-assessment exercises to explore personal goals, values and personality, as well as reveal or refine career interests and aptitudes. The results will be summarized in a unique Future Planning Report. This report will include the student’s College Search Worksheet with a carefully researched list of colleges and universities appropriate for the student. The Report and recommendations will be discussed in detail during the second all-family consultation and forms the foundation for informed future planning.

Phase Two: Planning and Monitoring
During periodic meetings with the student, discussions will include course selection, establishing grade goals, suggestions for improving study habits, time management, preparation for standardized tests, school and community involvement, etc. School progress will be monitored to ensure that goals are being met and the student is developing an optimal record for consideration by the institutions to which he or she will be applying. Recommendations for summer enrichment programs will be provided, as appropriate.

Phase Three: Preparing for College/University Entrance
There are several important planning tasks that should be accomplished during the summer between the penultimate and final years. We will maintain consistent contact with students as they work with our customized and portable SAT/ACT preparation program and develop model application forms and drafts of several potential application essays for use with the formal applications. These tasks should be completed before the beginning of the final year, if possible.

Phase Four: Application Assistance and Support
During the final year of school, the student will be applying to the colleges and universities in which he/she is interested in consultation with a consultant. Final applications and essays will be reviewed, and adherence to deadlines will be assured. All documentation will be reviewed carefully before submission. Our professional staff will work with the student on a continuous basis throughout the year until a final decision is made. Ongoing support is available until the student is properly settled in school.
